Military retirement estimate

Your rank and service years come from the profile. Estimates use exact service-year brackets in the 2027 pay-scale estimate (3.6% increase; estimated January 24, 2026), not official 2027 rates. View the 2027 estimate PDF → Check official DFAS tables →

BRS uses 2% per year; High-3 uses 2.5% per year, both capped at 75%.

Selected retirement system: Complete your profile to choose BRS or High-3.

Blended Retirement System (BRS)

—
Enter a pay grade and years of service.

High-3 (High-36)

—
Enter a pay grade and years of service.

These are rough estimates using the selected rank's 2027 estimated monthly basic pay at the entered service years; High-36 is not officially computed. E-1 under four months of active duty has a separate rate that this years-only profile cannot select. BRS generally applies to members who entered service on or after January 1, 2018. Active-duty retirement eligibility generally requires 20 years; Guard/Reserve and disability retirements need separate calculations.

Post-9/11 GI Bill monthly housing allowance estimate

Estimates MHA for a student using Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits. In-person uses the 2026 E-5 with-dependents BAH rate looked up from the school ZIP. Online-only uses the 2026–27 national maximum; ZIP does not change that rate.

Looked up automatically from the 2026 DoD ZIP-to-BAH table. Verify the rate with the official DoD lookup →
MHA generally requires a rate of pursuit greater than 50%.
Active-duty students are not eligible for this MHA payment.

Online-only estimate

—
Uses the $1,261 national online-only maximum; ZIP does not affect this rate.

In-person estimate

—
Enter a school ZIP in your profile for an automatic BAH lookup.

Estimates apply the selected benefit tier and rate of pursuit to the $1,261 online-only maximum or the ZIP-based campus rate for Aug. 1, 2026–July 31, 2027. Actual payments may be prorated by dates, breaks, eligibility, and VA rules.

BRS and High-3 are alternative retirement systems, not amounts to add together. VA compensation and military retired pay may be offset or coordinated. Ask DFAS or a qualified benefits counselor about CRDP, CRSC, and your situation.

100% P&T and federal student loan discharge

A VA determination of 100% service-connected disability or individual unemployability may qualify a borrower for a federal Total and Permanent Disability (TPD) discharge. It is not automatic forgiveness of every debt: verify the borrower, loan type, and discharge status with Federal Student Aid.

Parent PLUS distinction: the parent is the borrower. A parent's own qualifying TPD status may qualify the parent's federal Parent PLUS loans for discharge. The child's disability alone generally does not discharge the parent's Parent PLUS loan. Private loans are not covered by the federal TPD discharge.

Parents may apply for a Direct PLUS Loan through their student's school; the parent is legally responsible for repayment. Starting July 1, 2026, the general limit is up to $20,000 per academic year and $65,000 total for all parents per student, subject to a limited exception for some continuing students. Review the current rules and compare student aid options before borrowing.
